The Museum of Underwater Archaeology is located in the Bodrum Castle is worth visiting for its live display of the historical times in forms of items and ships used by the sailors in the historical periods. Some of the popular sunken ships of historic times in the Mediterranean sea recovered from excavations are on display like the full scale reconstruction of one third of an Eastern Roman wreck from the 7th century A.D. excavated by Dr. Bass. Finds from the world’s oldest known shipwreck.
There is a shipwreck hall built for the display of the ships and its exca
vated items .Many organic materials are preserved under water much better than on land and this also was valid for the Uluburun shipwreck. Glands, almonds, figs olives and even pomegranates were found.
Gold- silver jewelry, copper itemsĀ was found as tools and arms made from bronze. The Italian Tower houses coins and jewelry from all periods. Most impressive of all is the Glass Hall containing a spectacular cargo of medieval glassware from an 11th century Islamic wreck.
